Springfield Art Guild RUTH ENSLEY
“The subjects of my paintings have ranged from non-objective designs, people, landscapes to flora and fauna with an exotic flavoring. Much of the subject matter of my watercolors comes from Costa Rica where I lived for four years. There I fell in love with the lush greens of tropical foliage and the vibrant colors of exotic birds and flowers. Painting beautiful transparencies and numerous textures that one might see in a cloud or a rain forest is a very satisfying challenge for me.” Ruth has worked as a professional artist and teacher after graduating from Fairleigh Dickenson University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and Art Education. She enhanced her education by attending The Cleveland Institute of Art, Carnegie Mellon, and graduate classes in art and art education at Newark State and Monclair State Universities in New Jersey. From 1966 to 2000, Ruth lived in 8 different countries: Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Madagascar, Mexico, Honduras, Paraguay, and Costa Rica. Also during that time, she was active in the art scene in New Jersey and from 1980 to 1984 in the Washington area. At that time she was a member of the Torpedo Factory, the Springfield Art Guild, and the Vienna Arts Society. Throughout the years, her work has received numerous awards and it is found in private and public collections throughout the world.
