The theme for the show was
generally set by the Horticulture Center .
What made the jurying so
interesting was the fact that the artists of the SAG used a great
variety of mediums and techniques producing pieces that fit the theme.
The mediums ran the gammit from acrylics, oil, watercolor, collage,
pastel, photography, woodcut, stained glass. This is very good and
speaks well for the SAG.
The florals were lovely and when
still life is combined with florals it gives the viewer a sense of
place. The wooded area paintings captured a mood , each it’s own
expression. The landscapes were telling of the whole of horticulture.
I searched for sound design of
the page, good color harmony, technique and if there was a narrative
in the painting.
Some paintings I still remember:
the two collages, two different interpretations of woods, the
portraits of the night flower, a small botanical so well placed as
it arced on the paper, the dragonfly looking for lunch at the
sunflower. The First Place painting, a large still life with fruit is
beautifully executed and well designed in its space. Jackie Perry has
my notes and numbers with comments on almost every piece.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all
your work; you have given work that resulted in a lovely show. Your
paintings are hanging as portraits, uncrowded. I thank Jackie for
inviting me. I thank all the members who waited and worked with good
esprit.
Congratulations to the SAG
Artists who participated!
Sincerely,
Concetta C. Scott
